nightwood

project overview:

NightWood was an immersive outdoor installation at The Mount in Lenox, MA. The first large-scale installation at the Mount was conceived by lighting designer Chris Bocchiaro, in partnership with scenic designer Megan Kinneen and composer Greg Hanson.

NightWood transformed the 50-acre property into a fantastical winter landscape for the holidays. Inspired by the natural beauty and architecture of The Mount, NightWood was designed to evoke an abstract and magical winter landscape filled with mystery, and whimsy.

my role:

I produced NightWood on a 9-week timeline. This included locating and working with the design team as well as visitor services, facilities, and marketing departments. I created COVID-19 safety guidelines, staffing plan, and project timeline and budget. In addition, I working closely with staff and stakeholders at The Mount as well as the creative team to share and refine the vision for this project.

reclaim your liberations

project overview:

The Reclaim Your Liberation Project centers on what it means for QTBIPOC folks to reconnect to the self, the land, and our Ancestors through artistic expression while immersed in the natural world. This project acknowledges the historical and contemporary disparities regarding access to land and barriers to participation in outdoor healing and connection with nature.

Conceived as part of the pilot program of Artists-at-Work in partnership with artist Lia Russell-Self, Raei Bridges of The Rusty Anvil, and The Mount.

my role:

Alongside Lia Russell-Self and Raei Bridges, I co-conceived project activities to take place online and onsite at The Mount between July - December 2020. I also curated and facilitated a reading series exploring theoretical frameworks of black, indigenous, and queer traditions informing contemporary creative movements of reclamation and healing designed for those without lived experience of racism and homophobia.

Post Verbal Social Network

project overview:

Michelle Ellsworth’s work encompasses live performance, installations, video, websites, and drawings. Ellsworth employs absurdist humor, new technologies, monologue, and dance to create a topsy-turvy world that audiences get to experience, sometimes on the most intimate scale.

Through a collection of prototypes, Post-Verbal Social Network (PVSN)  employs both contemporary and pre-industrial technologies to augment the physical labor of choreography and community.

my role:

I worked with Michelle Ellsworth and her creative team to observe the early development of PVSN as well as provide research and dramaturgy assistance including materials on haptic language, cellular automata, and performance as pedagogy.

downstreet art 2017

downstreet art

project overview:

DownStreet Art (DSA) builds economic and social capital and encourages the dialogue between our community and the arts. DownStreet Art does this by enlivening downtown North Adams using art and cultural activities to increase visitorship and enhance resident participation.
Each summer from late June till the end of September, DSA creates a wide program of visual and performing art events including exhibitions, video screenings and site-specific installations in downtown North Adams.

my role:

From 2015 - 2018 I curated all DownStreet Art activities with a focus on bringing engaging public art projects and performances with a social-practice component to downtown North Adams. Some of my favorite projects during this time include a free concert on Main Street featuring grammy-award winning artist Fantastic Negrito, facilitating the creation of the Imaginarium mural by yu-baba, and like riding a bicycle a residency and performance featuring an interactive installation, on-site interviews, a low-power mobile radio station, and a community bike ride.
